34th Annual Fall Scientific Paper Session
First Call for Abstracts

June 28, 2007

TO: Members of the Academy and Science Community

The thirty-fourth Annual Fall Scientific Paper Session of the Rochester Academy of Science will be hosted by the State University of New York at Geneseo on Saturday, November 10, 2007.  This session provides a forum for Academy members, the collegiate community and others engaged in scientific research to present the results of their investigations in an atmosphere that promotes discussion and interaction.  Undergraduate students attending local colleges and universities are particularly encouraged to attend and to present papers.  Faculty and graduate students are also asked to participate and share their research results and ideas on a diversity of subjects.

Past presentations have been in the disciplines of anthropology, botany, chemistry, computer science, ecology, geography, geology, physics, physiology, science education and zoology.  Presentations may be accomplished in two formats: an oral reports or a poster. Oral reports are limited to 15 minutes in length and may utilize slides, overheads, video recordings and PowerPoint® software.  Leave some time for a question and answer period at the end of your oral report.  Posters should be designed to fit within a 4' by 4' area.  Posters provide an excellent opportunity for author-audience interaction and students should strongly consider this mode of presentation.

AN ABSTRACT OF EACH PRESENTATION SHOULD BE RECEIVED BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2007.

To assist the host institution, please adhere to this deadline as closely as possible.  Directions for abstract preparation and e-mailing are included on the attached registration form. Abstracts will be compiled and bound together for distribution at the Paper Session.

Registration will be held in the foyer of the Integrated Science Center, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Refreshments will be provided throughout the morning.  Luncheon information and campus directions will follow in subsequent e-mails.

We look forward to your attendance and participation on Saturday, November 10.
